The Dochula Festival, also known as the Druk Wangyel Tshechu, was inaugurated in 2011 under the patronage of Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck. What makes this festival truly unique is that it is entirely performed by the Royal Bhutan Army, unlike other tshechus led by monastic dancers. The soldiers undergo an intensive three-month training program to perfect the traditional mask and folk dances showcased during the festival, which runs from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., offering a day of vibrant cultural performances and patriotic spirit. Complementing this extraordinary event, the 7-day Dochula Festival Tour immerses you in Bhutan’s rich heritage and natural beauty as you explore the enchanting valleys of Thimphu, Punakha, and Paro, and embark on a breathtaking hike to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, experiencing the true essence of Bhutan’s culture, history, and Himalayan charm.
